The annual court interpreter workshops offered by the Hawai‘i State Judiciary Court Interpreter Certification Program will be held in January.
The State Judiciary through its Office on Equality and Access to the Courts will conduct its Certification Program for Kaua‘i on Feb. 7 and 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Courthouse.
This once-a-year opportunity for individuals who speak English and a second language is the first step required to becoming qualified as a court interpreter in the Hawai‘i State Courts. All interested interpreters are encouraged to apply.
“This year, through the generosity of our funding partners, Hawai‘i Women’s Legal Foundation, and Hawai‘i Friends of Justice and Civic Education, we are able to offer the Basic Orientation Workshop for just $75,” states Debi S. Tulang-De Silva, project director. “This is a 35 percent discount over the regular rate.”

Topics covered include court interpreting skills; interpreting practice techniques; legal terms; court interpreter ethics and protocol; the Hawai‘i state court system; the Judiciary’s Court Interpreter Certification Program; and the role of Office of the Administrative Director of the Courts S Equality and Access to the Courts.
