HANAPEPE — A motorcyclist died Wednesday night following a traffic collision near the Kaumuali‘i Highway and Puolo Road junction in Hanapepe.
Kaua‘i Police Department reports that the motorcyclist was 25-year-old Brian Cesario of Kalaheo. According to a preliminary report, Cesario was traveling east on Kaumuali‘i Highway at around 6:30 p.m. when he collided with a westbound Ford F150 making a left turn from the highway onto Puolo Road.
Medics transported Cesario to Kaua‘i Veteran’s Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Cesario was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, according to a county news release. The crash remains under investigation.
Police Dispatch announced that Kauamuai‘i Highway was closed in both directions at 8:47 p.m. Traffic was diverted to Hanapepe Road until shortly before 11 p.m., according to police. Dispatch announced the roads were open again at 12:12 a.m.
This is the eighth traffic fatality on Kaua‘i during 2012.
