LIHU‘E — Anna King and Keith Lizama welcomed Kaua‘i’s Christmas baby Tuesday at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Born at 12:26 a.m., Marina Lizama was welcomed Christmas Day as Anna’s first child and Keith’s second child, the couple being surrounded by friends and family in the hospital’s suite.
“I was due on Dec. 16,” Anna said. “We were planning on being on the Mainland for skiing, but when we found out about the birth, we canceled.”
Considering their former plans, Anna said they did not have too many plans in place for a Christmas celebration.
Outside in the hospital corridor, Carol Claunch was nervously pacing the floor.
“You’re going to have to come back,” Claunch said. “My daughter is in there right now, and hopefully, she’ll have a Christmas baby as well. Today is her due date.”
Claunch’s daughter, Josephine Cabresa, is expecting a baby boy.
“She came in toward the end of my labor,” Anna said. “I was hoping her labor would be quick.”
A call to the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea revealed no Christmas babies born there on Christmas Day, although the nurses said they enjoyed a Christmas Eve baby.
Next week, Kaua‘i will be on the lookout for its first baby of 2013.
