WAIMEA — The holiday season may have been soured for the owner of a Ford F-150 pickup truck that burned Sunday afternoon on Polihale Beach.
This photo was submitted by Steven Sutton, who said he arrived at the beach in time to see the flames. It was somewhere between 3 and 4 p.m., he said.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Engine 7 and Truck 7 responded to the scene, roughly 200 feet from Polihale Road near the first pavilion, according to county officials.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, roughly five personnel used foam and water to fully extinguish the fire within 30 minutes, county officials said.
“No one was hurt, as it started in the front end,” Sutton said. “When the tank ruptured there was one really loud boom, and a wall of flame came off the drivers side.”
The flames were too intense to read the license plates.
“The only really unusual thing was that the right rear tire did not burn or even lose air,” Sutton said. “That was because the onshore wind blew the flames away.”
No injuries were reported, according to the county.
