LIHU‘E — The Contractors Association of Kaua‘i presented its annual Service Awards and installed its 2013 board of directors during the general membership meeting held recently at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
Service awards are presented to CAK member companies who were recognized for their contributions to CAK, the construction industry and to the community, states a press release from CAK.
Ralph and Laura Cushnie, owners of Cushnie Construction were recipients of the Hideo Tanaka Subcontractor of the Year award.
Simpson Strong Ties and Hawai‘i Gas shared in the Wayne Ellis Associate Member of the Year honors.
Jeff Fisher, representing Earthworks Pacific, accepted the Robert Rask Community Service Award.
The Tetsuro “Rosy” Maeda Member of the Year award was presented to the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative.
Jerry Nishek, the general manager of Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping, became the 55th president of the CAK. He takes over from Maile Bryan of Martin A. Bryan, Inc. Travis Horka of Custom Landscaping was named CAK first vice president, Trinette Kaui of A&B Properties, the second vice president, Jesse Akagi of Hawai‘i Gas, secretary, and Dirk Apao of Finance Factors, treasurer.
The 2013 CAK Board of Directors include: Thomas Arnott of Jas. W. Glover, Ltd., Laura Cushnie of Cushnie Construction, David Hinazumi of The Grove Farm Co., Lanell Miyamoto of Kalei’s Steelworks, Bryan Davidson of Earthworks Pacific, and Fred Pascual of KIUC.
They are joined by newly-elected members James Abeshima of Shioi Construction, Curtis Law of Curtis E. Law, Inc., and Raynard Ellis of HPM/Kaua‘i Lumber.
CAK was established in 1957 as a trade association of licensed contractors, suppliers and businesses affiliated with the construction industry on Kaua‘i.
