KE‘E — Authorities continue to look for a suspect who reportedly threw a Japanese tourist from a cliff near Kalalu Beach on Dec. 16.
Police said Friday the search for attempted murder suspect Justin Wynn Klein continues.
The victim fell roughly 15 feet and was seriously injured. She was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, and her condition has been upgraded from critical to stable.
On Friday, Chief of Police Darryl Perry released a statement saying members of the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Kaua‘i Fire Department and the Department of Land and Natural Resources spent Thursday and Friday clearing the valley of any campers who could be located as the search for Klein continues.
“We want to thank the community for your understanding and patience during this critical time,” Perry says. “We also want to thank those who have contacted police with information on Klein’s possible whereabouts. We are diligently following up on all leads and doing our best to bring this dangerous man to justice and restore a sense of security within our community.”
CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest of Klein. People with information on his whereabouts, call KPD at 241-1711 or call CrimeStoppers at 241-1887.
Klein is described as a Caucasian male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, with brown hair in a Mohawk haircut. He may have a mustache and a beard, and has a tribal band tattoo on his left arm. Klein was last known to live in Kilauea. He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Police say the Kalalau Trail remains closed at the Ke‘e Beach trailhead until further notice.
