PO‘IPU — If it is anything like last year, Po‘ipu will be the place to celebrate and ring in the new year, with free fun for the entire family.
“Last year they estimated we had 4,000 people,” Robin Jumper of Tyza Consulting said.
Kalapaki Joe’s, in partnership with the Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association, invites you to attend the 2nd Annual New Year’s Eve Music Fest and Fireworks Celebration Dec. 31 at Po‘ipu Beach Park.
“We are thrilled to be part of this tremendous community event that brings people together from around the island,” Jody Valente, owner of Kalapaki Joe’s, said.
This year’s event kicks off at 5 p.m. with live music, food and a keiki tent and culminates with a spectacular fireworks show at 9:20 p.m.
Jumper said the musical talent is “all time” for the island of Kaua‘i.
“We have an amazing and diverse musical lineup this year that will appeal to all ages.”
Featured bands include several Hawaiian favorites, including two-time Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning musician Anuhea of Maui.
Known for blending engaging lyrics, acoustic soul, pop, rap and reggae, Anuhea has earned the reputation as Hawai‘i’s No. 1 female artist, according to a news release.
“I love putting together the music festival lineup and know Anuhea is going to rock in the new year Hawaiian style,” Valente said.
Other performers include Kaua‘i reggae band Revival and Hawaiian surf legend Titus Kinimaka. The melodic acoustic sounds of Dustin Thomas — who recently returned to the islands after a tour of the West Coast — will open and close the festival.
“People say (Thomas) is kind of a combination of Tracy Chapman and Bob Marley,” Jumper said.
Food booths will be set up around the main county pavilion and spotlight local grinds from Kalapaki Joe’s, Keoki’s Paradise, Chalupa’s and Paco’s Tacos.
A Keiki Tent, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Kaua‘i, will be located next to the beach playground and feature Hawaiian games and other activities for children. The tent is complimentary but donations to the club are recommended.
Hosted by the Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association, the fireworks show is a long-standing New Year’s Eve tradition in Po‘ipu. Music is scheduled to continue after the fireworks until approximately 10 p.m. People are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
“It’s a family, community event where all ages are welcome,” Jumper said. “It’s going to be great.”
“This is an event that truly offers something for everyone in the family,” Valente added. “From delicious grinds and awesome live music, to a cool array of keiki activities and, of course, the fireworks celebration.”
Parking in the Po‘ipu area is on a first-come, first-serve basis and those who plan on attending are asked to be mindful of no parking signage.
