The Waimea High School boys battled Island School to a 0-0 stalemate in the day’s opener at the Island School campus before Kaua‘i met the Kapa‘a boys at Vidinha Stadium.
Kapa‘a, after ending with a tie against Island School last week, got into the driver’s seat with five minutes left in the half when Warrior forward Daniel Alonzo was credited with the goal which came off a corner kick and settled into heavy traffic to the left of the goalmouth.

As the game wound down, punctuated by blasts from vuvuzela horns, Kaua‘i’s Anthony Gammerino found the net to knot the game, 1-1 with five minutes remaining.
Kapa‘a went strong in an attempt to break the tie, but time ran out resulting in ties all-around.
More stalemates dotted the KIF soccer scene Saturday as the Junior Varsity boys between Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i finished in a 0-0 tie.
