WAILUA HOMESTEADS – Beginning Monday, a portion of Pu‘upilo Road next to Opaeka‘a Stream will be closed periodically to allow the contractor Goodfellow Brothers, Inc. to replace a culvert that was damaged by flooding earlier this year, states a county news release.
Emergency repairs were made immediately after the storm so affected residents and visitors could continue to use the roadway until a new culvert could be built.
Signs will be placed in the area indicating when the roadway is closed.
The project is expected to take approximately eight days to complete, weather permitting.
The schedule for the road closures will be as follows:
• Monday — limited closures at approximately 20-minute intervals.
• Tuesday — closures of up to two hours with 15-minute openings between closures.
• Wednesday and Thursday — Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contractor will accommodate trash collection as much as possible.
• Friday – periodic closures.
• Dec. 17 to Dec. 18 — Road will be closed for 24 hours from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. to allow for the pouring and curing of the concrete road surface.
Area residents should park their vehicles on the shoulders of the road before the bridge when their schedules are not compatible with the road closures.
Copies of the scheduled road closures will be available in a special box provided on site by the contractor.
The county and the contractor would like to thank area residents for their patience and cooperation during the culvert replacement project.
