HONOLULU — Kiewit Building Group Inc. is accepting applications for its 2013 scholarship awards, according to a news release. Kiewit’s program, now in its sixth consecutive year, will award three scholarships of $2,500 each to Hawai‘i high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in architecture, construction management or engineering. Applications must be postmarked by March 30, 2013.
Kiewit Building Group initiated the scholarship program for high school seniors as a way to support local students who will be the community’s future leaders. To date, the scholarship program has awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships.
“Kiewit wants to recognize individual achievement and support those students who have aspirations to work in the construction industry,” says Sheri Mau, director of administrative services at Kiewit, in a release. “We also view this as an investment in students who could be Kiewit employees in a few years after completing their college education.”
Scholarship applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0; be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student by an accredited four-year university; intend to pursue a major in engineering, architecture or construction management; and submit two letters of recommendation. Students must complete an application and submit a 500-word essay on why they should be considered for the scholarship.
