KOLOA — Michelle Panoke, the agency and administrative supervisor for the Hawai‘i Foodbank, Kauai Branch, was impressed with the efforts of the Koloa Elementary School.
She was joined by Wes Perreira, the warehouse supervisor for the Hawai‘i Foodbank, Kaua‘i Branch, in accepting 1,083 pounds of food generated by a school-wide food drive Tuesday.
“This is quite a bit of food,” said Perreira. “It will help feed a lot of people for the holidays and should last us for a while.”
Courtney Chadderdon, the Koloa School PTSA president, and Ray Carvalho, a Koloa School counselor, spearheaded the drive where the class raising the most food would be treated to a premium.
Keoni Pau’s fourth grade class earned that honor, its students generating 268 pounds of the school’s total and its student representatives Alohilani Blackstad, Larissa Kobayashi and Ayden Quinn getting the honor of helping Panoke and Perreira in loading the food into the waiting van.
Chadderdon said next on the Koloa School agenda is the Pancake Breakfast and Craft Fair and Silent Auction coming up Dec. 8 from 7:30 a.m. to noon in the school’s cafeteria.
It will feature the Koloa School ‘Ukulele Band, which performed Wednesday during the launch of student decorated bags for the holidays at The Shops at Kukui‘ula.
Chadderdon said in addition to the great food, crafters and vendors which line the cafeteria walls, there will be great items to be bid on during the silent auction.
