PUHI — Wrestlers in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation wrestling program and others wanting to get a jump start on the KIF wrestling season are invited to a wrestling clinic headed by Jake Clark Saturday at the Island School gym starting at 10 a.m.
The clinic is intended to jump start the KIF wrestling season and is designed to teach rules, techniques, and strategies specific to high school wrestling competition, said Coach Mac of the Westside Wrestling Kaua‘i Club, in an email.
Coach Mac said all KIF school wrestling coaches have responded and are intending to have their teams attend.
The clinic is a USAW sanctioned event open to all USAW members.
USA Wrestling membership can be purchased online at www.themat.com, or at the event, ahead of the clinic.
A special tiered USAW membership limited to youth for the high school style of wrestling is available for $15. There are no other fees for KIF wrestlers.
Clark was a two-time Minnesota High School State Champion and 15-time Regional National Champion from ages 10 through 18 years old.
He is a two-time Greco Roman Junior World team member, six-time Greco Roman National Champion, 11-time U.S. Armed Forces gold medalist and 2004 Olympic alternate.
He was the 2007 World Cup Champion and is a 2016 Olympic hopeful after withdrawing from the 2012 Olympic trials due to injury.
Clark has a long history of coaching wrestling from youth through adults in schools and for the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is current head coach and founder of Hi Flyers wrestling Club Honolulu and head wrestling instructor at the UFC-BJ Penn Gym in Honolulu.
He is one of Penn’s training partners and wrestling coach.
