KAPA‘A — Shoppers could do a split shift Saturday during the Veterans Day parade through Kapa‘a town.
The Kaua‘i Independent Daycare Services School opened its doors early for parade spectators who beat the traffic closure, and as the parade wound down, fired up the lunch line.
Phyllis Kunimura, who is the director of the school, said this event is just one of the many special memory makers created by the preschool located behind the First Hawaiian Bank, Kapa‘a Branch.
Haley and Mandy Gokan had their patriotic shirts on and embellished their garb by having their faces painted at the K.I.D.S. fundraising carnival.
Spaces normally reserved for instruction and activity by the pre-schoolers were transformed into a marketplace atmosphere as crafters and vendors filled the area with assorted unique items.
A bounce house welcomed shoppers to the rummage area prefacing their visit to the marketplace of vendors, the silent auction area leading to the baked goods section and the lunch line featuring Hawaiian food.
Parents lined up for the food while the children were kept busy with a variety of activities including the fish pond, face painting, cotton candy and shave ice, everything unfolding under the musical canopy of both live and recorded music.
K.I.D.S. preschool, currently with 81 students aged three and four years old, is a nonprofit community preschool open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, throughout the year.
