HANAPEPE — Kai Perreira-Alquiza threw for three touchdowns to lead the Hanapepe Unlimited to a 22-8 win over Kekaha Sunday at the Hanapepe Stadium to close the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League regular season.
Following Perreira-Alquiza’s first TD pass, a 12-yard hit to Logan Kanahele-Shintani, the Kekaha Titans answered with 7:08 remaining in the first half when Cody Taniguchi tapped paydirt on a one-yard charge for the 6-8 deficit.
Hanapepe answered the score when Perreira-Alquiza connected with Raymund Mendoza for the 14-6 Hanapepe lead at the half.
Following a scoreless third period, Perreira-Alquiza put the game away, connecting with Mendoza on a 40-yard scoring pass for the 22-8 final.
Earlier in the day, the Lihu‘e Patriots Mitey Mites’ Doza Kaeliohi and Tryten Pongasi engineered two touchdowns each to lead the Lihu‘e MM to a 30-0 shutout over the Koloa Redskins MM.
Kaleiohi opened the scorebooks early for his TD followed by Pongasi passing 41 yards to Sean Mullikan for the 12-0 lead after one quarter.
With 2:17 remaining in the half, Pongasi kept the ball for a 12-yard score for the 18-0 Lihu‘e halftime lead.
Kaleiohi tapped paydirt on a two-yard charge in the third frame and Kylen Chang iced the win on a nine-yard run to the end zone in the final period.
Kawika Na‘o scored a four-yard run in the final quarter to cap a 19-0 Kapa‘a Eagles Mitey Mite win over the Hanapepe Colts in the second of four games on the day.
Sefa Le‘ae opened the Eagles’ scoring on a five-yard charge in the first quarter, and Cody Relacion tapped paydirt following a four-yard run in the second period for the final math.
Koloa Redskins’ Junior Midgets’ Alika Ventura, engineering three touchdowns, triggered the running clock in the third period in Koloa’s 32-8 win over the Lihu‘e Patriots JM.
Noah Thompson, finishing with two touchdowns, opened up the scorebooks in the first period, recovering a loose Lihu‘e ball and running it back 23 yards for the opening score.
With less than six ticks peeled off the second period, Ventura found the end zone on a one-yard charge followed by Thompson passing to Kahekili Kelekoma for 20 yards and a touchdown with 8:42 showing in the half.
The Redskins continued its march, Ventura keeping the ball on a 15-yard run to the end zone with 1:42 left in the half for the 25-0 Koloa lead.
Ventura hit Andrez Stauring on a 17-yard scoring pass in the third period before Lihu‘e got on the board in the fourth quarter when Skyler Sadora hit Jasper Jacintho on a 67-yard pass for the 32-8 final.
No scores were available from the Junior Pee Wee Hanapepe Colts in its playoff on Maui or the JPW Lihu‘e Patriots in the Maui Bowl Saturday.
Pam Arroyo, the KPWFL president, said this Saturday is the annual Shrine Game where proceeds benefit the Shriner’s Hospital. The first kickoff is at 8 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium with the championship starting at noon.
The Kapa‘a Eagles JPW will host the Mililani squad from O‘ahu at 8 a.m. followed by the Koloa Redskins Mitey Mites hosting the Kailua, Big Island MM starting at 10 a.m.
At noon is the JPW championships featuring the Hanapepe Colts, a 33-6 winner over Lahainaluna to advance to the title game against the Manoa JPW.
Arroyo said the winner of this Regional Championship will advance to the National Pop Warner Super Bowl in Florida, scheduled for early December.
Following the title game, the Shriners unfold their triple series with the East vs. West MM going at 2:15 p.m. followed by the East vs. West JM kicking off at 3:30 p.m. and the East vs. West JPW ending the day with a 4:45 p.m. kickoff.
