LIHU‘E — The Lihu‘e Lightning was stiffled and the Kilauea Green Slime got their trophies Wednesday during the elimination round of the Will Veeck Soccer Tournament at the North Vidinha fields.
Shayden Duldulao, recently earning the scoring award for the Honolulu Bulls on O‘ahu, showed his stuff early in the Boys Under 12 match where he pocketed a hat trick, or three goals scored, with at least one assist in the Dama-Dudes’ 8-0 shutout over the Kilauea Green Slime.
Besides scoring his hat trick in the first half, Duldulao sent a nice cross to Hunter Ragasa on the far pocket where the waiting midfielder netted the goal.
Nathaniel Trugillo and Nicky Semblante uncorked their respective firepower to give the Dama-Dudes a 6-0 halftime lead despite the concerted defensive efforts of the Kilauea greenshirts.
Trugillo and Semblante each netted goals in the second half for the 8-0 effort, the Kilauea goalkeeper earning his keep with the intensive firepower of the Westside blue shirts, one save earning commendation from Dama-Dudes’ assistant coach Ramon Semblante.
On the girls’ arena, the Lihu‘e Lightning was quashed by the smart-passing North Shore Heat, 7-0.
But the Lightning did not go without a strong battle from its midfielders on both sides of the ball, staying the course throughout the 70-minute game despite being frustrated by the passing of the red shirts.
Natalie Devin, Brianna Binder and Emily Johnson sparked the Heat attack, each player netting a pair of goals and Soleil Errico icing the victory with a final goal near the end of the game.
Lyndsie Kashima, Lindsey Nakea-Tresler and Alexandra Temme had strong games for the Lightning.
The Will Veeck Tournament continues with games on Friday and concludes Saturday at the North Vidinha fields.
