LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons announce that applications are currently being accepted for the Bob and Sally Hyman scholarship program.
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior student at each public high school, according to a news release. In addition, one “Benjamin Award” of $100 will be awarded to a freshman, sophomore or junior student at each public high school. Applications are available in the counselor’s office at each school.
These scholarships were established by the Kaua‘i Masonic Lodge as a result of a bequest by Bob Hyman, a member of the Lodge, and his wife, Sally. Additional donations to the fund have been made by others over the past several years. Historically, Freemasonry has been a staunch supporter of public education. George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, wrote, “Wise and judicious modes of education, patronized and supported by communities, will draw together the sons of the rich and the poor, among whom it makes no distinction … ”
