KAPA‘A — A stop at the Kaua‘i Independent Daycare Services’ 24th annual Carnival Fundraiser will be perfect for early arrivals to the annual Veterans Day parade Saturday in Kapa‘a town.
Traffic advisories will close down portions of the roadways in Kapa‘a but doors to the KIDS carnival open from 8:30 a.m. so people are welcome to drop by and pick up snacks and other goodies from the bake sale to enjoy while waiting for the parade to start.
Following the parade, which starts at 10 a.m., people are welcomed back to the event for lunch and serious shopping among the variety of items being offered.
“Coinciding with the Veterans’ Day Parade through Kapa‘a town, this will be a family fun day, so we suggest you park your car early and stop by the KIDS School bake sale to pick up something yummy to much on while watching the parade,” said Phyllis Kunimura, director of KIDS School, in an email. “Then, head back over for carnival games for the children, a bouncie house and face painting. Cool shave ice and sweet cotton candy, and also lau-lau plates for lunch.”
Kunimura said KIDS School invites Kaua‘i crafters to show their unique items just before the holidays with many dedicated crafters joining the event each year.
“Our successful Tony Kunimura Silent Auction with sports packages, dinners for two and our signature item, a two-night stay at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, plus other hotel stays, jewelry, quilts and beautiful artwork from Kaua‘i artists, the KIDS Silent Auchtion has something for everyone,” Kunimura said.
The Lost Pelican Band will provide music from the school’s back playground to complement the shopping. A tag sale will offer slightly used toys, books and household items donated by the community and families of KIDS School.
The KIDS School in Kapa‘a is a community preschool for 81 students, 3- and 4-year-olds, open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, throughout the year, states a KIDS release.
Kunimura, the director and founder, has created a program and curriculum based on recent brain research indicating that 90 percent of development takes place between the ages of 0 to 5 years old. The more experiences and successes a child has during this time of their life, the better equipped they will be for kindergarten and as an adult, staff say.
