Leland Nishek was distributing free bags of compost as fast as he could grab them Saturday during the Kaua‘i Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, a collaborative effort by several groups at the back parking lot at Kmart.
Annette Baptiste was there with her family, including Bev Pang who is panicking because the Lights on Rice parade is about a month away (Dec. 7).
Ian Costa, who used to truck around the potted plants for Bryan Baptiste during the elections, got his Arbor Day plants Friday at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife sale.
Hats off to everyone concerned, and kudos to Nanea Babila whose mother is the horticulturist at the DOFAW arboretum for her aspirations of trying to restore native habitat.
Nanea is volunteering with all kinds of plant and environmental areas … she was at the Kaua‘i Community Market last week with the KCC aquaponics people.
Mahalo to Cynthia Chiang who found the Camper (Kaumakani Seniors are not happy) at the market with a special vest she found at a garage sale.
