A reason for not voting
I don’t vote anymore. I used to, but gave up after Bush II won his election in the courts. It really made my vote seem worthless if it was going to be decided like that. I had never voted a positive vote anyway. It was always the same: I don’t trust this guy, but I don’t trust that guy even more, so I’ll vote for this guy. It was always a negative vote I was casting. But it’s much more than that. The candidates all take credit for anything good that has happened, blame somebody else for anything bad that has happened and all promise that their plan with fix all our problems. But none of them actually tells you what their “plan” is. Plus, if you believe what they say about their opponent, it would seem they should all be in jail. They all say what you want to hear and then do whatever they want to once they’re in power.
And I guess I’m not alone in my feelings as the statistics show that the percentage of eligible voter that do vote has dropped from the almost 80 percent level to somewhere in the 30 percent range.
As I’ve said before, it’s like choosing which snake you want to bite you. So, it’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I can’t choose anyone thinking that they are the best choice. They don’t even go by the laws they themselves enact. What kind of example is that?

On President Obama’s race
President Obama is referred to as the nations first black president. Who would had thought that a nation that once endorsed slavery, now has a black man in the White House?
Many times I have thought if only the president was Jewish, because Judaism is a maternal religion, and let’s say for example an orthodox Jewish woman conceives a child with a gentile man, the child is deemed Jewish, on the other hand let’s say that a Jewish man has a child with a non-Jewish woman, the child is not Jewish.
President Obama’s mother was white, his father was black, according to Halakha (Jewish law) President Obama would be white.
I wish the Jewish law applied to all ethnicity’s then the Tea-baggers, Birthers and the Donald Trumps of the world wouldn’t be so obsessed with racism, or would they?

A vote for Cal Lee
I am voting for Cal Lee for Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee at Large because he represents the kind of leadership Hawai‘i desperately needs. Many people have criticized Cal Lee for running for office, because they say he is just a football coach. They fail to recognize that Cal is, and always has been much more than just a football coach. He is a mentor and a motivator. He is an educator, and has lead many young people to great success. I see the strong personality of Coach Cal, and recognize the leader in him. His goals of teamwork in leadership are one that many of our politicians do not understand. Morality and the success of the people of Hawai‘i have been covered by self-interest in too many of our leaders. Cal Lee has had a lifetime of commitment and hard work behind him, but a fresh eye in politics and public service, and join me in voting for Cal Lee for OHA Trustee at Large on November 6th.
