LIHU‘E — No major injuries were reported in a mid-morning crash on Rice Street involving a bus and Toyota SUV.
The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when a Kaua‘i Adult Day Health Center bus was attempting to make a left-hand turn out of Rice Shopping Center. While turning left, the bus collided with a Toyota 4-Runner traveling east on Rice Street.
The 13 elderly passengers and 48-year-old driver of the bus did not report any injuries. The 28-year-old driver of the 4-Runner sustained minor injuries and was transported by medics to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.
Rice Street was closed to vehicular traffic for roughly 10 minutes to allow crews to clear the roadway. All lanes were open by 11 a.m.
