Mokihana Roofing wears pink in donation of roofing services

ANAHOLA — Kamaka Fernandez had doughnuts at the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s home sites in Anahola Wednesday.

“The crews should be arriving any time now,” said Pablo Herrera, the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity site supervisor. “The roofing material was just completed and the roofers will start.”

Mokihana Roofing owner David Anderson had his roofing crews out Tuesday and was scheduled to be on site Wednesday and part of Thursday to complete roofing of Fernandez’s home in Anahola.

Jessica Clabo, Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity volunteer coordinator, said Mokihana Roofing was donating labor to have the roof installed.

“This saves us a lot of time,” Herrera said. “Anderson said it’ll probably take his full crew about nine hours to lay the roof.”

Anderson arrived with four of his crew, one scheduled to arrive later in the day.

“We should have this one done by Thursday,” Anderson said. “We were here Tuesday to get everything ready and now with the delivery, we can go to work.”

Two of his workers joked about the pink cap being worn by one of the crew, another fishing out a pair of work gloves with pink ribbons emblazoned on them.

“Today is the last day for breast cancer awareness,” the crew said. “We have to wear pink.”

Fernandez, working on Kaipo Napoleon’s home located up the street, said he brought the doughnuts because he wants everyone to do a good job.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Anderson said. “Now that I have my own company, I can do it.”

Clabo said with the quality work being donated, the homeowners can be assured of at least 20 years of good roofing.
