LIHU‘E — Darcie Vea and Randy Iloreta, both consistent top bowlers for Kaua‘i High School, top the 2012–2013 Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling all-stars, which was announced Tuesday.
The two seniors led the Red Raiders to the KIF championship with strong showings throughout the season.
Vea topped the Girls Individualists with a 166.67 average over nine games while Iloreta finished the season with a 197.33 average over nine games after rolling high games of 238 on Sept. 27 and 236 on Oct. 11.
Vea also rolled her season-best 189 on Oct. 11.
Joining the two Red Raider seniors, Kaua‘i placed Malia Garcia, finishing the season in the No. 3 Girls Individualist spot with a 162.67 average over nine games, less than a pin back of No. 2 individualist Angelika Celia Questin of Kapa‘a (163.00 average), who also made the KIF girls all-stars. Jaffia Cybele Ballesteros, a Kaua‘i sophomore, rounded out the Red Raider placements on the all-star team.
Lacie Montemayor, leading Waimea to the only second place finish handed to Kaua‘i during the season finale, is a senior filling in the No. 4 spot in the individualists with a 159.56 average over nine games.
She is joined by Janette Papa, a Waimea junior, who anchors the No. 6 individualist spot with a 136.78 average.
Following Iloreta, the Kaua‘i boys team placed Keoki Palau, a senior, who fills in the No. 4 individualist spot with a 169.22 average. Ian Luis, a sophomore, rounds out the Kaua‘i all-stars, filling in the No. 6 individualist spot with a 166.67 average, just a pin below Kapa‘a’s Kawika Wellington, who fills the No. 5 individualist position with a 167.78 average.
Wellington is joined on the all-star listing by Clarence Sembrano Jr., an 11th grader, who holds the No. 2 individualist position on a 180.56 average.
Chase Ueno, another 11th grade bowler, is the sole Waimea representative, Ueno anchoring the No. 3 individualist spot on a 176.44 average.
The KIF will be hosting the Billy Tees Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state bowling championships on Thursday and Friday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
