HANAPEPE — Bree Blake reigned as the 2012 Homecoming Queen over the halftime homecoming celebration Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
Captain Al and Suzanne Gustavson of the Waimea Shell gas station prefaced the celebration with their annual contribution of $5,000 to the Waimea High School athletic department. The check was accepted by Jon Kobayashi, the Menehune athletic director.
Bree, a senior aspiring for a career in graphic design, was escorted by her father, Kaipo Blake of Koloa.
Joining Bree, Jackie Taylor, a captain with the Menehune air riflery team, wore the sash of Miss Menehune.
Leiann “Nunu” Matagiese, whose older brother Saui recovered a fumble for the University of Hawai‘i against Colorado Saturday, wore the crown of Miss Football.
“We were watching the game at home and saw Saui recover a fumble and run it in for a touchdown, but it got called back,” Leiann’s mother said. “But he got credited for a fumble recovery. But we had to get ready and when we got here, there was still a lot of time.”
Shayla Dela Cruz Labanon ruled as Miss School Spirit during the week of homecoming activities which earned the Class of 2013 top honors.
Nikki-Ann Vea, wearing the sash of Miss Victory, rounded out the homecoming royalty.
Class representatives included Michelle Austria from the Class of 2013, winner of the spirit award for the homecoming week, Krystin Garcia from the Class of 2014, Blakelee Cox-Abuan from the Class of 2015 and Shyla Taniguchi-Simbre from the Class of 2016.
Each of the homecoming royalty was escorted by their fathers during the halftime celebration.
