LIHU‘E — “Heart Works,” an art show featuring artists Lea Ingram and Bud Spindt, begins Friday at the Kaua‘i Museum.
An opening and reception for the artists will be held at the museum Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“We’ve taken it (our work) to the next level,” Ingram said.
Ingram, of Kilauea, will be showing her art quilts, which go far beyond traditional quilting. Most of her pieces are hand-painted using permanent dyes and finished with additional stitching to add further dimension and texture.
“I love to work in the mixed medium of paint and fabric because the combination of the two give me a way to express myself that feels true to my heart,” she says. “I am passionate about painting and also about fabric, so to be able to work with both makes me incredibly happy and grateful. It is my joy to be able to share my work with any who are interested.”
Spindt, formerly of Kaua‘i but who now lives on O‘ahu, will be sharing his illuminated blown and fused glass. He has done several large sculptural pieces for major corporations, as well as more intimate smaller pieces which, he sells through a gallery in Honolulu, according to Ingram.
“I enjoy working with hot glass because it’s such a magical material,” Spindt says. “It has this ability to transmit and reflect light in an other-worldly way, with saturated colors like liquid gemstones that you might expect to see in your dreams.”
“Heart Works” will run from Oct. 26 through Nov. 30 during regular museum hours. The Kaua‘i Museum, located at 4428 Rice St. in Lihu‘e, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
