The Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders have a chance to clinch a trip to the states if the team can somehow come away with a win Saturday at Vidinha Stadium against the Kapa‘a Warriors. It won’t be easy as the Warriors will be celebrating homecoming, giving Kapa‘a extra motivation to come away with a victory and keep its championship hopes alive.
• The Red Raiders would no doubt like to wrap up first place Saturday. Kaua‘i’s offense seems to be on the upswing and improving every week, so it may come down to the Warriors defense to hold strong.
Slightly surprising is that it has been the Red Raider running game of the last two games that has helped push Kaua‘i into the position that it is in. On the flip side, Kapa‘a has struggled against the run in the past, so it may come down to wheather or not the Warriors can stop the Kaua‘i ground attack.
• The Warriors have been a bit up and down this season, especially offensively. The team has gone through spurts where it can run the ball and when it has struggled. If Kapa‘a can establish a running game and control Kaua‘i’s, it should have a good shot at extending its season.
• Picking games this season has been sketchy at best. I think this game will either be won or lost in the trenches by the line play from both teams. Who ever dominates the line of scrimmage will win. With the exciting play that has happened thus far, and Kapa‘a celebrating its homecoming, I just have a feeling that the Warriors will come out motivated and ready to dominate. I have Kapa‘a winning in a very close nail biting game that should provide entertainment from beginning to end.
