LIHU‘E — Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a and Bryden Salvador of Kilauea have been named to the 16-player Asia Pacific Junior Cup team.
The announcement by the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association was made Tuesday for the sixth annual Asia Pacific Junior Cup, which will play Oct. 31 through Nov. 4 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort Kings’ Course on the Big Island.
Hilton Grand Vacations is the title sponsor for the sixth year of the Ryder Cup-style international junior tournament, which features the top 16, ages 15 through 18, junior golfers from Japan and Hawai‘i, each team being represented by 10 junior boys and six junior girls.
The tournament benefits the HSJGA and the Waikoloa Foundation, a Big Island nonprofit organization.
Opening ceremonies on Oct. 31 launch the tournament, followed by three days of Ryder Cup style play, the juniors squaring off in Four-Ball, Foursome and Singles matches for three consecutive days.
The public is invited to the opening ceremony as well as the tournament with the golf course opening at 9 a.m. for spectators on Nov. 1 and 2, and at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 3.
A Junior Am Golf Tournament will follow the competition on Nov. 4 at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course where top juniors from Hawai‘i and Japan have the opportunity of joining participating amateurs for a day of friendship and golf.
