LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney announced Wednesday that it has updated its website.
The OPA site is located within the County of Kaua‘i system website at www.kauai.gov/default.aspx?tabid=165. In addition to contact information, the new content provides access to current press releases, updates on existing programs and links to resource sites supporting the community.
Prosecuting Attorney Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho said that “knowledge is power” and that the OPA is working to engage the community in its operations and empower residents in the criminal justice system.
“We have done this with ‘Pono Kaulike’ community sessions that explained the court process and by performing senior fraud presentations to help our elderly protect themselves and their assets,” Iseri-Carvalho said.
“We continue to provide ongoing victim services through our office and feel it is important to provide as many access points as possible to crime victim and crime information resources for our citizens and community users,” she added.
Visitors to the OPA web site can link to several state programs:
• VINELink — Statewide automated victim information and notification. It offers victims and concerned citizens free, anonymous and confidential access to timely information and notification and parole status of offenders housed in Hawai‘i penal centers.
• Hawai‘i Crime Victim Compensation Commission: Provides compensation to victims of violent crimes for their crime-related injuries and losses, and to “Good Samaritans” for injuries or property damage suffered in the prevention of a crime or apprehension of a criminal.
