KAPA‘A — Tuesday night at the Kapa‘a High School gym, the Kapa‘a High School Warriors hosted the Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders while celebrating their senior night. Unfortunately for Kapa‘a, they would get swept in three straight sets by Kaua‘i. The Red Raiders dominated, with a final score of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-19.
The first set was highlighted by the Red Raiders seniors including Kawehi Louis-Diamond, Taylor Young and Kristle Henry. Louis-Diamond started it off for the Red Raiders earning a block early in the set followed by an Adrienne Graycochea kill and a Young ace, which put Kaua‘i up 5-1. A trio of unforced errors from the Warriors and a Henry block added to the Red Raiders’ tally making it a comfortable 9-1.
Tahra Kaui had an excellent service night including back to back aces in the set, giving the Red Raiders a commanding 18-4 lead. The Warriors would make a small run late in the set with Justice Brown-Kimura, Eryka Keoho and Kaylee Silva each getting a kill to help the cause, but kills from Jannin Hashizume and Henry eventually would give the Red Raiders an easy 25-12 win.
The second set would have a similar feel, with Louis-Diamond pushing Kaua‘i ahead with a kill and a block. The Red Raiders would further their lead to 10-3, off of solid service from Pua Dizol. Alexis Stogner, who had a nice night setting up her teammates, would earn herself a kill, inching the Warriors closer at 12-7. However, Dizol at the net would help Kaua‘i pull further away, with help from Louis Diamond and Ashley Ramelb. The Warriors would go on to commit a trio of errors, which would enable the Red Raiders to come away with the 25-17 win and a 2-0 lead in sets.
Yet again, the third and final set was a case of same story, as Kaua‘i would pull out in front again. Freshman Graycochea and senior Henry would give the Red Raiders the early lead off of a pair of kills. Kapa‘a senior Sara Agoot would earn a pair of kills making it 8-4 for Kaua‘i.
However, Kaua‘i‘s Kaui would do her damage once again at the service line tallying four straight aces from which Kapa‘a would never recover. Graycochea would once again maker her presence felt, putting the proverbial nail in the coffin with a kill and a tip to finish the third set at 25-19 and earn Kaua‘i a 3-0 win.
