Kudos to the organizers of the Matsuri Kaua‘i 2012 on a great event! Sue Kanoho was busy working with students doing a customer survey at the event and Art Umezu was so busy, he never had time to talk with the local people.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and Mrs. Regina Carvalho had time to oblige Matsuri attendees with photos, and Stephen Fujii was busy with the Kaua‘i Bonsai Club demonstrations.
Art was the emcee, Friday when Moriyama City Mayor Kazuhiro Miyamoto, Tsugio Kawashima and Kazumichi Tateiri were met by Mayor Carvalho, Kaua‘i County Council Chair Jay Furfaro and Ron Morin, president of the Rotary Club of Kaua‘i in planting a tree strengthening the Rotary Student Exchange Program with Japan.
Lani Nagao, the first Rotary exchange student, and Kanani Strickland (is that the same person as the Island School P.E. teacher?), the exchange student from Kapa‘a, were both present to help with the planting.
Now, do we go to the YWCA Candlelight Vigil, or get to meet the OHA candidates?
