LIHU‘E — The month of October may mean Halloween costumes, candy and pumpkin carvings for many. But for credit unions around the world, October signifies something even more special: International Credit Union Day.
On Thursday, the Garden Island Federal Credit Union will celebrate a day that has united people to reflect upon the credit union history and achievements, and to promote the credit union philosophy across the country, states a GIFCU press release.
“Members Matter Most” is this year’s ICU Day theme and Garden Island FCU will offer delicious baked goods to its members throughout the day.
“ICU Day has been a tradition for years at the credit union and like in past years, we have planned an enjoyable day with many delicious refreshments for our members,” said Charlene Garcia, GIFCU administrative assistant.
GIFCU is also extending its festivities all week long. Members are invited to join in their “Pop-A-Balloon” celebration until Friday at GIFCU’s office in Lihu‘e. Throughout the week, members who stop by the office to conduct business at the credit union will be selected at random to “pop a balloon” and win a prize.
“GIFCU looks forward to ICU Day every year to remind members that they own and belong to a credit union and to show appreciation for their membership,” GIFCU president Keith Uyeno said. “ICU Day is special to our members and staff because of the camaraderie and appreciation that exists between them.”
As ICU Day approaches, GIFCU staff looks forward to another “exciting day” of serving its valued members and “sharing the aloha” that GIFCU is known for, Uyeno said.
“We hope you’ll celebrate with us this October,” Uyeno said.
GIFCU was founded in 1938 as Lihu‘e Federal Credit Union. Membership has since expanded to now serve the entire island. GIFCU is at 2973 Kele Street, diagonally behind the Lihu‘e Post Office. Visit www.gardenislandfcu.com or call 245-2712 for more information.
