LIHU‘E — The county Department of Water has scheduled a water outage in the Ha‘ena–Wainiha area on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus an additional two hours to flush the system.
The outage will allow the department’s contractor, Unlimited Builders, LLC, to tie into the newly renovated Ha‘ena steel tank.
The areas that will have no water service are all of Ha‘ena and parts of the Wainiha including those along Kuhio Highway from the Wainiha Powerhouse Road intersection to just beyond the Ananalu Road intersection, as well as all of those along Ananalu Road.
Visit www.kauaiwater.org for a detailed map of all the affected streets.
Affected customers are advised to store enough water to meet their needs during the outage. Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the outage.
DOW will provide portable water tanks at the intersection of Kuhio Highway and Alealea Road and at the intersection of Kuhio Highway and Wainiha Powerhouse Road for customers that run out of water during the shutdown.
Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
When the water main is turned back on after the connection is done, it is possible that air will be mixed into the water. If this happens, the water will appear white or milky in color. The air in the water will dissipate after a while and should not be cause for alarm.
Motorists should exercise caution when driving through the affected area.
Affected customers that have listed phone numbers or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted through Connect CTY about the outage.
