LIHU‘E — Stealing cash and credit cards from friends landed a Kapa‘a man a year in jail Wednesday in 5th Circuit Court.
Cole Kainoa Neifert, 23, of Kapa‘a, received a five-year probation and one-year jail sentence in two cases involving credit card theft, attempted fraudulent use of a credit card and second-degree theft. The sentences will run concurrent with time the defendant is already serving in other matters.
The credit card case reportedly involved friends and an unsuccessful attempt to use cards at an ATM.
The theft charge involved a May 2 incident where Neifert allegedly stole merchandise from Kmart.
The merchandise was returned and no restitution was ordered.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe said that failing probation could result in a five to 30 year jail sentence.
