NUKOLI‘I — Chopsticks and sake is on tap for Nov. 1 at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort between 6 and 7 p.m.
“That should be another good crowd,” said Eric Fujimoto of Young’s Market Co. of Hawai‘i, a wine distributor on Kaua‘i. “We have a good crowd tonight featuring Wines from Australia. Tonight’s offering features white wines and red wines from the South Australia region.”
The Art and Wine program is a monthly feature of the Kaua‘i Beach Resort located in Nukoli‘i, said Tracy Ford, the resort’s manager.
“We’re trying to bring the property back to the people,” Ford said. “Over the years, we’ve had a lot of names and people have become confused over who we really are. We’re doing this to let people know who we are. This is one of our signature events.”
Art and Wine takes place on the first Thursday of each month, spearheaded by Maile Lewis, who coordinates a featured artist along with a selection of wines.
Admission is $15 per person and includes the wine, art exhibit and appetizers. Tax and gratuity are not included.
Patrice Pendarvis was the featured artist Thursday night, getting help from both Tammy Andersland of the Ship’s Store Gallery in Kapa‘a and local artist Glen Ichimura who was helping patrons by holding a piece within a frame so they could get a better idea of how the piece would look framed.
“I’ll get my chance, too,” Ichimura, who is found at a lot of local art events, including the Rotary Club of Kapa‘a’s Taste of Hawai‘i where he paints live for an auctioned piece. “Tonight, I’m just helping out.”
Wines featured from Australia include featured white wines D’Arenberg — The Hermit Crab Marsanne Viognier, vintage 2009 from McLaren Vale, South Australia, and Penley Estate “Aradia” Coonawarra Chardonnay, another vintage 2009 from Coonawarra, South Australia.
Red wines featured included D’Arenberg — The Stump Jump Red Blend, a vintage 2009 from McLaren Vale, South Australia, D’Arenberg — Cabernet Sauvignon “The Stump Jump Cabernet,” another vintage 2009 from McLaren Vale, South Australia, and Peter Lehmann Layers Red Blend, a 2009 vintage from Barossa Valley, South Australia.
