Blues and reds
Democrats create jobs. Republicans lower taxes for the wealthy.
Everyone benefits when Democrats hold political seats. Republicans who earn less than $200,000 are better off financially under a Democratic President.
Over the last 50 years, some 48 Million jobs were created under Democrat presidents.
Some 31 Million jobs were created under Republican presidents during the same 50 years.
How many of each had the opportunity? Six Republicans and five Democrats.
Republican presidents were able to create around 5 million jobs each.
Democrat presidents were able to create around 9 million jobs each.
Learn from American history, our country is depending on it.

Mahalo Tim Bynum
Recent events concerning the federal lawsuit filed by Councilman Tim Bynum against the Office of the Prosecutor and the County of Kaua‘i move me to write in his support.
As an elected member of the Kaua‘i County Council during the 2008-2010 term, I worked directly with Councilman Bynum on an almost daily basis for two years. I know first hand that he is entirely focused on doing positive things for the community. To Tim, putting community first is not just a slogan, it is a commitment.
I have seen Tim repeatedly conduct himself with dignity and restraint despite repeated public attacks and the stress of what was being orchestrated illegally against him. He confronted abuses of power in the council, yet remained steadfast and always professional while continuing to speak out for the public and for government transparency.
People often wonder about people in politics, hoping someone will simply stand up for what is right, even if it is difficult to do so. Tim is that regular guy who chooses to stand up for what is right for our community and to hold people accountable for their misuse of power.
Thank you for your continuing courage, Tim.

Park your car, take the bus
I don’t know how Europe accomplishes it. They have beautiful towns and cities that one can easily walk around for hours with outdoor cafes, as many as 10 or more, facing a central square so you can enjoy people watching and perhaps run into a friend or even make a new acquaintance. And they can visit shop after shop offering incredible and unique merchandise. No cars anywhere.
Obviously, Europeans still have cars, but cars don’t dominate everything.
In America you can’t get from one store to the next without your car unless you visit some second rate architectural monstrosity that is surrounded by acres of empty parking. Every megastore offers the same poorly produced stuff. Restaurants have to be indoors to keep out the car exhaust, meaning you’re cut off from the rest of the world and usually the acoustics are so bad you can’t hear yourself think over the noise of people yelling at one another.
If you are brave enough to try to walk somewhere, you have to go miles out of your way just to cross the street, and when you do, you have an excellent chance of being killed.
Heck, as far as I’m concerned, everyone on Kaua‘i should be required to purchase a bus pass and that money should be used to find a place to park your car permanently while you’re downtown. We could get some exercise and might even start liking one another.

Are we insane?
The presidential election is far from over. But, if America chooses Barack Obama, we will fit the famous definition of insanity — doing the same thing over again, while expecting a different result.
Obama’s socialist tendencies have done nothing to bring us out of this terrible recession. Nor has Obama done anything significant to address the budget catastrophe. If re-elected, we will obviously see more of the same failure to address these problems.
MItt Romney governed a liberal state as a pretty liberal governor. Now, he is running as more of a conservative. Personally, I wish Romney was more consistent in his belief in a free market economy.
But, I understand that he was trying to govern a liberal state as the people wanted him to govern it. He also wasn’t careful enough in crafting his comments recently when he was being secretly taped. I wish he was a better wordsmith. However, the bigger question is, what kind of results will we see if Romney is elected?
Look at the resumes of our recent presidents: A peanut farmer, an actor, a CIA guy, a small-state governor, a son of a CIA guy, and a junior senator. Romney’s resume is the strongest resume of success that we have seen in a long time.
Wordsmith or not, Romney has succeeded on a grand scale at nearly everything he has tried; whether business, politics, or volunteer work.
I would hope America has some idea of the vast difference in results that they should expect from these two candidates.
