NAWILIWILI — Papa‘au picked up its third straight win Thursday when the Nawiliwili Yacht Club unfurled its Gene Wells Memorial Series, Race No. 3 in 10, to 15 knot winds out of the northeast.
Similar to previous races, Fast Company netted the fast time, crossing first overall on a 41:34 elapsed sail over the 3.5-mile course, but correcting to 41:38 PHRF, just 21 seconds behind Papa‘au for second place.
Papa‘au worked the course for a 43:08 elapsed sail, third overall to finish, but corrected to 41:17 PHRF to soar to the top of the 10-boat fleet.
OZone, a perennial strong challenger, crossed the line second overall on a 42:06 elapsed sail, but corrected to 42:10 PHRF for this in the final count.
Bonjolea crossed the line fifth overall, slipping in just five ticks behind Lelele, at 46:53 elapsed, compared to Lelele’s 46:48 elapsed time.
But Bonjolea corrected to 45:05 PHRF for fourth place honors. She further corrected to 39:10 Club for top honors in that class.
Lelele corrected to 46:39 PHRF followed by Speedy (49:01 elapsed, 49:06 PHRF), Coyote (53:24 elapsed, 50:01 PHRF), Weatherly (50:04 elapsed, 50:09 PHRF), Mapuana (52:51 elapsed, 50:18 PHRF) and Malolo (50:48 elapsed, 51:07 PHRF).
The public is invited to view the competition when the fourth race in the seven-race series opens up Thursday when the first flags fly at 5 p.m. at the Nawiliwili Harbor jetty wall area.
