The Storybook Theatre of Hawai‘i in Hanapepe recently announced its First Fridays at Storybook performance art series hosted by Blu Dux and Renee Janton. The first event will be on Oct. 5 and every first Friday of the month through December in the Peace Garden at Storybook Theatre.
Singer/songwriter, gardener and activist Blu Dux composed “Kalaheo Shuffle” and “Lost Dog Blues,” which were winning entries in the Kaua‘i Mokihana Festival Composer’s Concert and Contest. During the Oct. 5 event, she will host and perform her original compositions and popular sing-along tunes inviting audience participation. She will be joined by Larry Heller on bass.
Musician, sacred sound healer and facilitator of Kauai’s Festival of Healing Harps, Renee Janton, will co-host and share her Celtic harp artistry and unity consciousness vibrations. Also appearing will be Brian Gorden with his “funny but true” brand of comedy. A raffle and open mic will be offered as well.
The Peace Garden, whose official name is The Spark M. Matsunaga International Children’s Garden for Peace, is an oasis-like garden setting and intimate venue located between the American Savings Bank and the Post Office in Hanapepe. It is the home of the bronze statue of Hanapepe’s hometown hero Sparky Matsunaga and was created by sculptor Kim Duffett.
The event is from 7 to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be offered and Storybook’s Celestial Tea Room will be open offering Chinese herb teas. This is a free event, but donations are appreciated. For more information call (808) 335-0712 or visit www.storybook.org.
