It takes one person to get the ball rolling
This is what differentiates America from most of the world.
This is an example of American freedom.
Bravo to Councilman Tim Bynum for standing up to improper behavior by self important elected employee’s of the County of Kaua‘i, like Prosecuting Attorney Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho and Sheila Miyake Lincoln. Like the saying, if you want to test a person’s character, give them power over others.
And it’s always true.
Unfortunately, some people are more careful than others, and it takes longer to out them.
Some unethical people think that if they get away with abuse of power, they will always get away with it, but all it takes to take down a dictator is one person.
That’s right. One person starts the ball rolling on taking down the dictator.
In an increasingly jaded world, we sometimes forgot what history has taught us, over and over again.
If you persevere, are honest and never give up, then you can take down a dictator.
It is your responsibility as an American.
Just make sure you are honest in your actions, otherwise you are a just a wannabe dictator yourself.
So go Tim Bynum, good luck and much aloha to you!

‘Business people’ don’t need to run government
There has been a common misconception this election season about how America needs “business people” to run our country because they can “create jobs” and that’s what is needed to make everything better. I was terminated by one of the largest communication companies on the planet after four years.
Even though the company recorded a profit in all but one quarter over the four years I was employed there, the pay of the sales people was cut every single year, while the cost for the customers was raised at the same time. Every year I became more skilled and less paid. The absurd goals for sales people were raised at the same time and lower level managers were instructed by the corporate elites to use whatever means necessary to motivate sales people to achieve these impossible goals even if it meant blatantly lying and deceiving customers.
I chose to take a moral stand and refused to vacuum money from the local economy that the corporate hierarchy didn’t even have the decency to share with the sales people. There were no extra jobs created, just a cynical corporate cycle of replacing those union workers who have reached top pay with lower paid new hires with increasingly less skill and cheaper benefit plans.
If you had the audacity to challenge this, like I did, a reason to remove you was manufactured and the rest of the workers kept quiet or joined you in the unemployment line.
I once expressed deep concern over the amount of plastic waste produced in our store that would eventually end up on Mt. Kekaha or in the ocean and decided to make a point.
A mid-level manager flew over from O‘ahu to explain that my moral concerns would never make a difference to his superiors because I was just a number on a piece of paper and I was only costing myself my job.
If these are the jobs we can look forward to with “business people” in government, you can keep them as far as I’m concerned.

‘2016’ is political propaganda
Perhaps Mr. Martin, you should do a bit of Googling about the maker of “2016: Obama’s America.” Dinesh D’Souza is a conservative author and commentator — hardly an unbiased source for a “documentary.” He based it on his 2010 book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” which is not exactly a neutral title. This film is a Republican docu-drama and nothing more. It was financed by “12 donors.” How Republican not to tell us who they are.
I’m a psychology major, and I wouldn’t begin to theorize on how President Obama’s early life has affected his political views, yet D’Souza purports to have all the answers.
This is a propaganda film and nothing more. If you’re already on the right, you’ll buy it. If you are more to the left or a fact checker, you won’t. Simple as that.
What I really need to see is 10 years of Mitt Romney’s tax returns. His father, George, produced 12 years of his, when he made his bid for the presidency. Is there a reason Mitt won’t release his?
I lived in Michigan during the George Romney years, and I can tell you this — Mitt is not the man his father was. If I were a Republican, which obviously I’m not, I would still want to see those 10 years of tax documents. Doesn’t this make even the most ultra-conservative Republicans question their candidate’s honesty and wonder just what he’s hiding?
Just askin’.
