LIHU‘E — Torch Light Productions, in partnership with Knockout Hawai‘i, will be hosting the Kaua‘i Knockout Championship No. 5 Brawl at the Hall Saturday at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e.
“This is probably our biggest event, only because this is our first pro fight,” said Johnathan Rivera, Torch Light Productions owner. “We are featuring two pros in the main event. Up until now we have only done amateur fights.”
The Brawl at the Hall will feature 14 fights, with every fight having at least one fighter from Kaua‘i.
“It’s exciting, because one of the pros is from Kaua‘i, Dustin Barca,” Rivera said.
“He’s a pro surfer and he just turned pro MMA. What sets us apart with our fights is we always try to at least get one fighter in every fight that is from Kaua‘i.”
To go along with the fight card, guests will be in a transformed War Memorial Convention Hall, which will be set up with a 22-foot hexagon cage, concessions, two 14-foot screens and a beer garden.
“We try to model it after UFC,” Rivera said. “I try not to throw that name out there to much, but that is our goal to make it feel like a UFC style event.”
“We have vendors,” said Kipi Akana, owner of Knockout Hawai‘i. “People can actually go in watch the videos, save their seats, come out and eat (and) drink some beers. They can shop, take pictures with the ring girls, so it’s not like they just sit there and wait for the fights to start.”
Along with the event itself, there is an official weigh-ins event, which will be held at JJ’s Broiler in Lihu‘e on Friday.
Tickets can be purchased for $35 in advance at Kujo’s in Kalaheo, Kaua‘i Harley Davidson, Kama‘aina Surf and Sport, Tamba Surf Co. and Village Variety in Hanalei. At the door, tickets will cost $45.
“We still have tickets available,” Rivera said. “As we get closer to the event tickets will start going really fast, I encourage everybody to get pre-sale tickets.”
The Kaua‘I War Memorial Convention Hall is at 4191 Hardy St., Lihu‘e. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the fights begin at 6 p.m. The official after-party will be at Richie’s Bar and Grill in Lihu‘e.
