LIHU‘E — Chamber Music Hawai‘i’s Spring Wind Quintet will perform at Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday.
The concert is free, however, donations will be accepted as a fundraiser for the Larry L. McIntosh Music Scholarship Association. The donations and proceeds from a silent auction will help provide scholarships to aspiring musicians from Kaua‘i to pursue music study.
The Spring Wind Quintet is recognized as one of the country’s leading woodwind quintets and for developing chamber music in Hawai‘i. It’s extensive and varied repertoire of works composed and arranged especially for the Spring Wind Quintet.
It was founded by Larry L. McIntosh, a band director serving Kaua‘i High School and Kaua‘i Community College for more than 40 years. He developed a high school program that grew to more than 300 students in bands that won numerous awards and accolades for their performances.
At KCC he founded the Instrumental Music Program, which has a Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra.
One of his biggest accomplishments was creating the All-Kaua‘i Marching Band called Ku Kilakila. The band marched in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade in 2005.
McIntosh was named a Kaua‘i Living Treasure by the Kaua‘i Museum in 2009. He influenced thousands of students and this scholarship fund ensures that his legacy will continue for generations to come.
