PO‘IPU — Kristyn Vasconcelles topped the 2nd D of the 3D Pole Bending event, top honors in the Goat Tying and the Breakaway Roping event to earn All Around Cowgirl honors Sunday during the final Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association
PO‘IPU — Kristyn Vasconcelles topped the 2nd D of the 3D Pole Bending event, top honors in the Goat Tying and the Breakaway Roping event to earn All Around Cowgirl honors Sunday during the final Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association rodeo of the 2012 calendar.
In addition to topping the Breakaway Roping event, Kristyn earned “fast time for the event” at 3.77, finishing the event tops at 8.36.
Adding to her points, Kristyn ended third in the 1st D of the 3D Barrel Racing event on an 18.660 go and second in the Steer Undecorating event with a 6.17 go. In the Dally Team Roping event, Kristyn served as the heeler for Alexis Vasconcelles, the team ending second with a blistering 8.63 on their first go, ending short on the second go, but still ending with Fast Time honors.
In that event, Karen Akita teamed with Kim Medeiros, named Reserve All Around Cowgirl for the rodeo, for top honors with a 50.87 average on two go’s, the only pair to successfully make two snares.
Third place in the Dally Team event went to Lori Ann Diego teaming with Joyce Miranda for an 11.59/1 followed by Rhonda Refamonte teaming with Trish Lorenzo (12.90/1) and Rhonda Refamonte teaming with Joyce Miranda (15.91/1).
Kim Medeiros, the KAGRA secretary, also added to her point standings with a second finish in the 1st D of Barrel Racing on an 18.582, edging out Kristyn in that event, fourth in the 2nd D of Pole Bending (25.056), fifth in Steer Undecorating at 7.45 and capturing Fast Time in the Goat Tying at 10.490 over Kristyn’s 22.639.
Cheyanne Tannery, adding to her paniolo skills by joining the Kaua‘i High School air riflery team, topped both the Barrel Racing and the Pole Bending events, the Red Raider getting a 17.659 for top honors in the 1st D of Barrel Racing and stopping the clock at 21.676 for top honors in the 1st D of Pole Bending.
Following Tannery in the 1st D of Barrel Racing were Kim Medeiros, Kristyn Vasconcelles, Marti Snyder (18.713) and Robin Medeiros (19.032).
Courtney Medeiros (19.26) topped the 2nd D of Barrel Racing followed by Trish Lorenzo (19.432), Eliza Vierra (19.460) who will be riding with the Keiki and High School rodeo this weekend, Marti Snyder (19.96) and Gayle Thompson (20.103).
Dena Souza let out a whopping war cry rounding the third barrel when she realized her go might be a personal best, resulting in her topping the 3rd D of Barrel Racing on a 20.682. She was followed by Brianne Shaw (21.06), Pat Hashimoto-Ferreira (21.063), Sierra Medeiros (21.131) and Christina DeLa Fuente (21.262).
Pole Bending
Following Tannery in the 1st D of Poles, Trish Lorenzo (23.24) and Marti Snyder (23.504) filled in the order.
Following Kristyn Vasconcelles in the 2nd D, Christina DeLa Fuente (24.53), Cora Murayama (24.815), Kim Medeiros and Eliza Vierra (25.144) filled in the leaders.
Shan Mundon topped the 3rd D of Poles on a 25.829 go followed by Brianne Shaw (25.909), Pat Hashimoto-Ferreira (27.747), Robin Medeiros (28.147) and Ho‘olai Ludington (28.611).
Goat Tying
Following Kim Medeiros’ fast time and Kristyn Vasconcelles, Cora Murayama posted a 24.924 followed by Alexis Vasconcelles (26.762), Marti Snyder (29.464) and Trish Lorenzo (30.215).
Steer Undecorating
Rhonda Refamonte topped the event on a 5.93 followed by Kristyn Vasconcelles, Lori Ann Diego (7.07), Kim Medeiros and Trish Lorenzo (7.93).
Breakaway Roping
Following Kristyn Vasconcelles’ lead in the event, Alexis Vasconcelles posted a 9.39 go followed by Cora Murayama (10.04), Britni Ludington-Braun (12.69) and Corinna Vasconcelles (13.09).
Dally Team Roping
Karen Akita and Kim Medeiros (50.87/2) were the only pair to post two successful go’s followed by Alexis Vasconcelles and Kristyn Vasconcelles (8.63/1 – Fast Time), Lori Ann Diego and Joyce Miranda (11.59/1), Rhonda Refamonte and Trish Lorenzo (12.90/1) and Rhonda Refamonte and Joyce Miranda (15.91/1).
With the completion of the six-rodeo calendar, KAGRA officials will tally the results with announcements of the top cowgirls in each event as well as the overall All Around Cowgirl and Reserve All Around Cowgirl being announced during its year-end awards banquet.
