LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School’s Randy Iloreta rolled the second-best game of the day at 190 in the second game to lead Kaua‘i to a sweep of Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling Thursday evening at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
The Kaua‘i boys rolled a total 2,146 pinfall to garner 11 points while the Red Raider wahine finished with a 1,972 pinfall and earned 12 points.
Darcie Vea and Malia Garcia set the pace for the Kaua‘i ladies, Vea making a 158 and 156 in games two and three, respectively, while Garcia posted pinfalls of 157 and 154 in games one and three, respectively.
Lacin Montemayor of Waimea, a returning bowler, rolled the best game of the day at 198 in the third game to lead the Menehune wahine to an 1,853 pinfall and seven points.
Following Montemayor, Janelle Papa posted pinfalls of 156 in game three and 132 in game one.
Angelika Celia Questin topped the Kapa‘a bowlers with a 159 in the second game to lead the Warriors to a 1,656 pinfall and five points.
Kapa‘a, with the most keglers of all three schools with 11, supported Questin’s lead with Alexa Thompson posting consistent 120s through three games and Hazel-Lyn Jarquio getting a high 135 in game two.
Boys rounds
Iloreta, in addition to his 190, the highest mark for the boys, added a 187 in game three to lead the Red Raiders, getting support from William Jordan Balbin who rolled a 172 in game one along with Keoki Palau who rolled a 181 in game one. The Red Raider boys ended with a 768 pinfall, its best showing of the night, in the game.
Following the Kaua‘i boys’ lead, Waimea rolled a 1,948 pinfall, just 46 pins ahead of Kapa‘a, and earned seven points. Kapa‘a finished with a 1,902 pinfall and six points.
Weston Souza had the best game for Waimea boys, soaring to a 181 in game two over his 135 (game one) and 126 (game three).
Kalei Nakaya similarly marked a 158 in game two over his game one 114 and game three 125 to lead the Menehune men to a 680 pinfall in game two, its highest pinfall in three games.
The Kapa‘a boys marked a 1,902 pinfall and earned six points.
Clarence Sembrano Jr. had high pinfall honors for Kapa‘a, rolling a 186 in game one before dropping to 154 in game two and a 118 in game three.
With the highest team member count of the three schools at 11, Sembrano got support from Kawika Wellington, a multi-sport athlete for the Warriors, who posted a 155 in game two to lead the team to a 693 pinfall, its best game of the day.
Drew Lopez Nishikuni rolled three straight games, his best showing coming in game one with a 132 pinfall before dropping to 126 and 119 in games two and three, respectively.
The second of six bowling matches starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
