Kelsie Iida-Vierra is indeed a girl. Kelsie was leading the points standings heading into the Labor Day drag races in the Junior Dragster category and after finishing first in the Sunday races, continues to lead the points standings. Kelsie, a freshman at Kaua‘i High School, said her sister T’Ryane Sakamoto finished second on Sunday, making it a family affair. Kelsie was with her family Saturday enjoying the Eat the Street fundraiser at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School — kudos to Jody McCune (she also operates The Beauty Shop near the Clayworks at Kilohana), Sarah Tochiki and all the organizers on a great event. It’s coming back on Oct. 13 (second Saturday).
Myles Shibata had an opportunity to spend the weekend on Kaua‘i and was having samples from the different lunchwagons (Food Network term is “food trucks”) before heading to the Waimea High School Friends and Alumni lu‘au (Alison Badua-Bohner’s mom was one of the honorees) and the Terno Ball.
Helen Laconas (soup’s on in Kukui‘ula!) wrapped up a swim meet at the YMCA and got to enjoy some grinds.
