While a field of motocross riders tackled the Anahola and Kilauea terrain, another field of motocross riders invaded the Wailua Motocross Track during the second phase of the 58th Annual Labor Day Motocross event.
Brian Barretto of the Kaua‘i Motocross Riders Association said with some of the best dirt bike riders converging on Kaua‘i, spectators were treated to some awesome riding and races over the two days races were held at the Wailua track, Barretto describing the action as “fast laps and bar banging on the edge of your seat action.”
The larger than normal field did not deter Kaua‘i riders who were able to claim top honors on both the keiki and main tracks, Barretto said in a KMRA release.
Cory Goias-Soares was a multiple winner, clinching the 65B class, but adding a second finish in the Keiki Quad class and a fourth finish in the 50A class.
Kaimana Kaui ruled the Keiki class, topping the 50C class, the biggest field of the day.
Tori Santago topped the Keiki Quad class over Goias-Soares and Kamu Santiago and Channyn Moke topped the 50B class over Talan Goias-Arzadon and Po‘okela Silva.
Richard Silliman led the 50A class over Levin Takahashi, Alexander Nelson, Goias-Soares, Jack Dizy, Nate Bell and Devin Gould, Ryder Bell claiming a did not finish for the motocross.
Richard Silliman added to his collection, claiming a silver before Goias-Soares in the 65B class over Kory Bunao, Levin Takahashi, David Carvalho and Jack Dizy, Nate Bell again claiming a DNF, his second for the event.
Koa Vares ruled the 65A class over David Dabin, Teagan Amorin, Tahuao Correa and Makia Na‘auao-Dickson.
David Dabin came back to claim the 85B class over Koa Vares and Christian Dabin, Nicholas Byram, Bryzen Cadiz, Makia Na‘auao-Dickson and Talon Jefferies, Pono Fabella claiming a DNF.
Following a tight run, Treysen Barretto came from behind to overtake Kilikai Ahuna on one of the aerials en route to claiming the 85A class, Donovan Canionero, Makaia Calina and Deedra Fabella rounding out the field.
Deedra Fabella went on to claim second place honors below Brienna Gomes of Maui in the Wahine class.
Moving to the main track, Bronson Hethcote topped the 250EX class over Brandon Carvalho, Alex Feyerisen, Brian Medeiros, Chris Sandobal, Kainoa Yester, Chris Byram and Keegan Whaley.
Brandon Carvalho rebounded to rise to the top of the the 450EX class, relegating Bronson Hethcote to second place followed by Alex Feyerisen, Doug Bell, Noah Channels and Devin Parado.
Isaac Oshita topped the Vets class followed by Doug Bell, Garrett Lee, Chava Greenlee, Harley Genegabuas, Jesse Jeffries, Chris Gomes and Randall Osakoda.
Chava Greenlee charged back, clinching the top spot in the Masters class over Derek Fabella, Andrew Byram, Jason Bascon, Mark Chargin, Dean Silliman, Todd Gregory, Rodel Domingo, David Amorin, Zack Swanson, John Lopez, Jeff Berry, Kelly Krall and Steve Haskill.
Kainoa Yester rebounded from his sixth place in the 250EX class to top the Open A class over Eddie McDonald, Noah Channels, Doug Bell and Harley Genegabuas.
Makaiah Calina topped the Big Bike Beginner class over Todd Gregory, Bryzen Cadiz, Dean Silliman, Rodel Domingo, John Lopez Jr., Kelly Krall, Jesse Gilbert and Steve Haskill.
Eddie McDonald topped the 250AM class over Bryson Yoro, Reese Mills Richardson, Brienna Gomes, Logan Gregory and Kai Haugland.
But Bryson Yoro rebounded to top the 450AM class over Reese Mills Richardson, Garrett Lee, Logan Gregory and Caleb Pankey.
Scott Takara took top honors in Pit Bike class over Ryan Gouveia, Keith Stancil and Kurt Furomoto while Reese Mills Richardson topped the Open B class over Garrett Lee, Treysen Barretto, Kilikai Ahuna, Logan Gregory, Makaiah Calina, Caleb Pankey and John Lopez Jr.
Kelly Krall, getting seventh in the Big Bike Beginner class, shot to the top of the Vintage class over Andrew Byram, Dean Briggs and Jeff Berry.
Paul Medeiros topped the Quads class over Robert Yoro, Irwin Santiago, Shawn Brown and Keith Stancil.
O‘ahu claimed the Island Race, the final event of the two-day motocross.
“Needless to say, spectators were treated with some awesome thrills of the highest motocross competition this year,” Brian Barretto said.
Next on the calendar is the KMRA motocross on Oct. 28.
KMRA invites all participants to come out on Oct. 27 to assist in the preparation of the track as well as pre-registering for the Sunday event.
Prior to the event, KMRA invites all dirt bike riders to ride the Wailua Motocross Track, which is open Saturdays, Sundays and all state and county holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
