LIHU‘E — Kahanu Davis marked touchdown runs of 16 yards and 62 yards to lead the Koloa Redskins Mitey Mites to a 14-0 win over the Lihu‘e Patriots Saturday as the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League opened its 2012 fall season at Vidinha Stadium.
Nakoa Andrade and Joseph Sams each ran in the point-after-touchdowns for the final math in the first of six games, which started play following the 50th anniversary Jamboree ceremonies.
Both of the Koloa touchdowns came in the first half, Davis tapping paydirt with 1:54 showing in the first period before unleashing his legs for the 62-yard score with 2:57 showing in the half.
MM Kapa‘a 27, Hanapepe 0
The Kapa‘a Eagles Mitey Mites may have suffered a setback on its opening series, but came back for a 27-0 shutout over the Hanapepe Colts Mitey Mites, led by Chasen Tumamao getting a touchdown and marking two PAT’s in the win.
Cody Relacion opened the scorebooks with less than three minutes showing in the first period, crossing the plane on a two-yard scoot and Tumamao getting the PAT on a run.
Tumamao followed the feat by scoring his own touchdown with 1:19 showing in the half, scooting 10 yards for the score and Relacion gracing the TD with a PAT run.
Dreydon Iwamoto, the recipient of a nice pass and several runs in the first half, got into the scorebooks in the third period, breaking away for a 47-yard score. The PAT failed for the 20-0 reading.
With 3:20 showing in the contest, Mason Carvalho iced the Eagles’ win on a 30-yard run, Tumamao gracing the score with a PAT run.
JPW Lihu‘e 27, Kekaha 0
Junah Corpuz scored two touchdowns and had one point-after to lead the Lihu‘e Patriots Junior Pee Wee team to a 27-0 shutout over the Kekaha Titans in one of two JPW matchups of the day.
Corpuz capped the Patriots’ opening series with a 39-yard breakout to the end zone with 8:37 showing, Rickey Ralston getting the PAT on a run.
Ralston announced the Patriots in the second quarter, breaking out for an 85-yard touchdown at the 9:34 mark. Corpuz graced the TD with a PAT run to give Lihu‘e a 14-0 bulge at the half.
Corpuz marked his second score of the game in the third period, cradling the pigskin for a 49-yard ride to the end zone and Ralston gracing the score with a PAT run for the 21-0 lead with 6:30 showing.
Isaiah Aquias graced the Lihu‘e win with a one-yard charge to the end zone with less than a minute peeled off the final period. The PAT failed for the 27-0 final.
JM Koloa 29, Lihu‘e 8
Following three games of keeping the pigskin on the ground, the airways opened in the fourth match when Koloa Redskins Junior Midget quarterback Alika Ventura passed for four touchdowns in its 29-8 win over Lihu‘e.
The Patriots were first on the board, striking at the 8:05 mark when Jasper Jacinto found Bryceson Abigania in the end zone on a one-yard scoring pass. Noah Tangalin booted the point-after for the 8-0 nod.
Koloa answered with 3:13 showing in the opening frame when Ventura found Treston Silva-Lancaster on a 20-yard scoring pass, the PAT failing for the 8-6 Lihu‘e bulge.
With 49 ticks remaining in the half, Ventura erased the deficit on an 18-yard aerial to Kahekili Kelekoma in the end zone, Kelekoma doing the PAT boot for the 14-8 halftime Koloa lead.
Ventura struck again with 1:50 showing in the third period, hitting Noah Thompson on a 22-yard pass and Kelekoma booting the PAT to increase its lead, 22-8.
Ventura iced the victory with 6:12 showing in the game, hitting Brayden Miyamoto for a 30-yard TD and putting a cap on the win by taking in the PAT for the 29-8 final.
JPW Hanapepe 26, Kapa‘a 0
Hanapepe Colts JPW quarterback Lacin Montemayor passed for three touchdowns and scored one on a keeper play to lead the Colts to a 26-0 shutout over the Eagles.
Following a defensive slugfest in the opening frame, Montemayor found Ryan “Rhino” Banasihan on an 11-yard scoring pass with 9:51 showing in the half, the PAT failing for the 6-0 read.
Montemayor struck again with 3:23 showing in the half, keeping the ball for a two-yard touchdown, the PAT failing for the 12-0 lead.
Montemayor lit up the boards for the third time in the period, hitting Banasihan on a 25-yard scoring pass with just 7.7 seconds showing in the half.
Noah Ruiz ran in the point-after for the 19-0 halftime lead.
The Colts’ final score came in the third period when Montemayor connected with Tai Ofisa on a six-yard scoring aerial, Naikoa “Spanky” Simao running in the point-after for the 26-0 final.
Unlimited- Hanapepe 31, Kekaha 0
Justin Fune and Reymund Mendoza each scored two touchdowns to lead the Hanapepe Colts to a 31-0 shutout over the Kekaha Titans in the nightcap.
Special teams and defense highlighted the Hanapepe win, Kamea Palama-Alquiza lighting up the scoreboards on a fumble recovery in the end zone in the second quarter.
Following the scoring fumble recovery, Fune marked his first TD on a 35-yard kick return in the third period, gracing the score with a PAT boot for the 16-0 lead.
Mendoza marked his first score with 7:50 showing in the third period, plucking a Kekaha pass and running the ball back 22 yards for the score, the PAT failing for the 22-0 reading.
Fune opened the fourth quarter with the first of two Hanapepe scores, dropping the Kekaha ball carrier in the end zone for a safety at the 9:07 mark.
Mendoza put the cap on the Colts’ win with a 25-yard touchdown run with less than three minutes left in the game, Palama-Alquiza doing the PAT honors with a run for the 31-0 final.
The Lihu‘e Patriots association draws the bye Saturday when KPWFL games unfold at the Hanapepe Stadium starting at 8:30 a.m. when Hanapepe hosts Kekaha, and Koloa hosts Kapa‘a in the nightcap.
