LIHU‘E — The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts gave purchase awards at ‘Art Kaua‘i 2012,’ an art exhibit on display at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center. Works by three Kaua‘i artists were selected for possible acquisition for the state art in public places program. Award recipients and their works are: Michelle Dick for ‘Na Pali Sunset and Moonrise’ (scratchboard), Francis DuBois for ‘You and Me’ (oil on panel) and Licia McDonald for ‘Gene Manipulation’ (clay). KSA awards were given by juror David Behlke to Francis Dubois, KIUC Award, Michelle Dick, Yardley Award (in memory of Paul Yardley, with mahalo to Laura Yardley), Ayumi Ditamore, Selfe Award (in memory of Rena Selfe with mahalo to Ned Selfe and Robin Pearl), Robert Xavier Lober, Kaua‘i Society of Artists Award and KSA Announcement Award, Rhonda Ballard, Emerging Artist Award (in memory of Dawn and Carl Steinhart with mahalo to Sally French), Anna Skaradzinska, Portraits of Hawai‘i Award (with mahalo to Carol Ann Davis), Sonja Kealoha, Banana Patch Studio Award (with mahalo to Joanna Carolan), Diane Wry, The Art Shop Award, and Roberta Griffith, Ben Nyberg, Stephanie Britt, Liedeke Bulder and Licia McDonald, each receiving Honorable Mention Awards. The exhibit is on display through Sept. 11 at the KSA gallery.
