A Kaua‘i style KLA ocean safety calendar is now available, and it features Kaua‘i photographs submitted by readers of the Garden Island and listeners of KONG Radio. “The turn out of pictures was quite amazing” says Ron Kosen of Photo Spectrum, who designed and pieced the calendar together with KLA 2nd Wave event coordinator Andy Melamed. The 32-page creation features water shots of waves breaking by Tom Green, James Alexander, Ben Nyberg, Kathleen Ho, Captain Andy’s and Allen Mozo.
Mozo provided a breath-taking photograph of a 10-foot wave at Makaha with Kauai’s Kalani Vierra and three other paddlers in a canoe, just before wiping out.
The calendar features Kaua‘i’s tides, moon cycles and more through 2013, along with ocean safety tips on rescue tubes, ocean currents around our island and a ocean action page featuring Kaua‘i at play, competing or at work along our shoreline and in the water. The calendars are for sale at all Times Big Save markets on Kaua‘i for $10 and will also be available at the KLA 2nd Wave concert October 7 at Kilohana.
The calendar was underwritten with generous support from King Auto Center, Hawai‘i Care and Cleaning, Go! Airlines. Proceeds go directly to the KLA ‘Ohana programs that will receive support for the year 2013.
