With recent reports of commercial use of the Kaua’i Recycles drop bins, the county is issuing a reminder that this program is designed for residential use only, according to a news release.
Commercial use of the Kaua’i Recycle drop bins is prohibited under Ordinance No. 706, which can be found in Article 6, Sec. 21-6.1 in the Kaua’i County Code. Violators may be subject to penalties.
Commercially generated recyclables can be taken at no charge to the following facilities in the Lihu‘e area:
• Kaua‘i Resource Center located at 3460 Ahukini Road near the Lihu‘e Airport; open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Closed for lunch, 11 to 11:45 a.m.
• Garden Isle Disposal for larger loads, 2666 Niumalu Road; Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Businesses that generate recyclables on a regular basis should consider obtaining hauling services from a recycler.
