KAPOLEI, O‘ahu — Pono Tokioka of Lihu‘e and Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a each fired a 77 during the final round of the 2012 Dave & Buster’s Junior Classic at the Kapolei Golf Course on O‘ahu Sunday.
But Tokioka was two strokes off the pace set by eventual winner John Oda of Honolulu who carded a final round 75.
Oda set the pace Saturday, carding a one-over par 73 over the 6,505 yard course, but tumbling to his 75 on Sunday for a two-day 148, a four-way tie for the lead with Andy Okida who ended with a 74 Sunday, tying PJ Samiere of Kailua, O‘ahu.
Skye Inakoshi of Honolulu, finishing Saturday four strokes behind Tokioka at 79, fired the best round of the day, ending three-under par 69 and settling into the four-way tie, which was broken when Oda was awarded top honors for the Boys 15 to 18 division followed by Inakoshi, Okita and Eric Le of Aiea, O‘ahu.
Tokioka finished with a two-round 152 (75-77) for a three-way tie with Ryan Kalani Lloyd of Honolulu (75-77-152) and Donny Jordan Hopoi of Aiea (75-77-152), Tokioka being awarded eighth place in the division.
Miyata, a strong golfer for Kapa‘a High School in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, ended with a two-day 156 (79-77) for 13th place overall, despite tying Joshua DeFreitas (76-80-156) of Waiana‘e, O‘ahu, who was awarded 12th place.
Miyata’s score put him a stroke ahead of Samiere who finished at 157 (83-74).
Keegan Loo of Lihu‘e, playing in the Boys 13-14 division at 6,353 yards, finished with a two-day 170 (84-86), tying with Nickolaus Nelson of Honolulu (85-85-170) and being awarded 15th place in the division won by Shaun Lu of Honolulu at 148 (73-75). Loo was the sole Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association player in the division.
Hana Furuichi of Honolulu fired a 148 (74-74) to capture the Girls 13-14 division, playing over 5,936 yards.
Mariel Galdiano of Pearl City, O‘ahu, fired a one-under par 143 (69-74) to take the Girls 15-18 division over 5,936 yards, her three-under par 69 being the best round Saturday.
