But last Wednesday, the Red Raiders’ boys and girls cross country runners were working through an 800-pace exercise conducted by Kaua‘i’s head coach Richard Matsumoto and Sasan.
Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation cross country runners have been working out for the past several weeks in anticipation of the season, which opens with the meet at Waimea High School.
The Menehune will host a pre-season invitational run Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. ahead of the season, allowing runners an opportunity to experience the track and event in anticipation of KIF competition.
The first meet of the KIF cross country season will be on Sept. 8 at Waimea High School. All races during the KIF season, which runs through Oct. 13, and the KIF Championship run will start at 8:30 a.m.
The Sept. 8 date is an ACT test date, but will not be accommodated, according to the KIF schedule.
Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy on the Big Island will host the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state championship meet on Oct. 26.
