The Solid Waste Division is currently accepting grant applications for projects that promote recycling and waste diversion on Kaua‘i, according to a county news release. A total of $50,000 is available in the grant program, and nonprofit agencies and for-profit businesses are encouraged to submit proposals. Examples of programs that are eligible for funding include: educational or recognition programs, such as videos, websites or classroom presentations; creation of recycled products; plus any recycling or waste diversion program not currently offered by the county.

The deadline to turn in a grant application is Monday, Oct. 15, 2 p.m.
Judging for the Recycling and Waste Diversion Grant Program will be based on the following criteria:
• Strength of proposal and compatibility with county waste diversion goals – 10 points
• Educational impact: potential to change habits or practices, leading to waste diversion – 5 points
• Measurability of project’s success – 4 points
• Experience of organization with implementing similar projects – 4 points
• Budget feasibility – 4 points
• Ability to leverage other non-county resources or have potential for self-sustaining projects – 3 points
A selection committee will review the proposals and rank them according to their overall scores.
The projects that are chosen for a grant award may receive full or partial funding.
